|
The Piano roll is a way of displaying staves.
 |
Note : This
kind of staff is only available in Harmony
Assistant. |
TERMINOLOGY
|
 |
Music is dislayed as a grid.
Horizontal axis defines the time, vertical axis
the note pitch. The more treble note, the higher on the grid.
Each time is divided into several cell.
Each note is displayed as a colored
rectangle spanning one or more cells. This sets the
start and end time position of the note.
The highest and lowest note pitches define the staff ambitus.
There can be several "layers" on top of each other, called voices. Voices are
differentiated from each other by their color.
Each voice is edited independently and can be
related with a different instrument.
The active voice can be changed, the others are
displayed in gray and cannot be changed.
The boxes can be selected individually, continuously
(time interval) or discontinuously.

|
 |
By changing the type of an existing staff
(Staves> Change staff type)
By adding a staff of this type in the document
(Staves> Add staff)
By creating a document of this type (File> New)
By converting an entire document. (Score>
Action> Piano Roll mode) Note that some layout
information is lost during this operation.
GENERALITY
|
 |
A piano roll staff can coexist with any of the
other types of staves.
There can be as many piano roll staves and as many
different voices in a single piano roll staff as you
want.
Scroll mode is preferred for editing because it best fits the peculiarities of this type of staff.
It is recommended to set the left and right margins to zero to avoid gaps between
measures. This spacing will nevertheless be
compulsory if you mix piano roll and other types of
staves in the same document.
Sung lyrics can be related with the piano roll.
A chord line can be related with the piano roll.
A guitar, bass, harmonica, accordion, etc.
tablature, priority or not, can be related with the
piano roll.
The tuning grid and therefore the accompaniments
take the piano roll notes into account.
It is compatible with MyrWeb export and printing.
THE GRID
|
 |
Adding a note outside the grid adapts the ambitus (view area).
Use the resize handles (red squares) to manually
change the grid ambitus.
The repeat, start and end music bars are managed.
The repeat symbol of the previous measure is allowed
as well as the repeat symbol of the two previous
measures.
The parts, jumps and targets are managed.
MEANING OF NOTES COLOR
|
 |
If a note is selected individually, it is displayed
in the color of the selection, defined in general
preferences, "Screen" tab
Otherwise, if a note has been colored in a
particular way it is displayed in that color.
Otherwise, it is displayed in the color of the
symbols in its staff or in gray if the voice is not
active.
VIRTUAL KEYBOARD
|
 |
Note pitches are displayed on a vertical virtual
keyboard to the left of the staff.
This keyboard is insensitive to the transposition of
the associated instrument. Played notes are
displayed on the virtual keyboard. A click on the virtual keyboard plays the note.
GLOBAL VISION
