Make notes optional

I have a choir piece with piano accompaniment. Can I make the piano notes optional for a portion of the music, like during some portion where the harmonies are rich and don't need the piano? Can I do this with a rule?

If you are seeking to reversibly silence a section of music that you already have, the easiest way is to use the mixer slider for the piano. Else, highlight the passage to be muted, then: Edit > Change > Play > {velocity = 0} > OK (If no further action is taken, apart from Play, then Cntrl_Z will then undo this).

If you want flexibility (sometimes play the whole, sometimes hide what youwant to hide), you might want to duplicate the piano staves. On the second set, you mute, using Tony's hint, the optional part. On the first one, mute the other parts. Make the copy "non-print'. Then activate/deactivate the second set, using the loud-speaker icon (either on the mixer, or on the icons column at the left of the staves. To do it in a single click, merge and flatten the two staves of the second set, which is anyway not printed.
