Hi users!

Introduced in Harmony 9.9.6 / Melody 7.9.6, the customized file selector allow preview of musical files.

If you bump into a bug, or dislike the new Open / Save As file selector dialog, you can go back to system file selectors:

Configuration --> Global Setup --> Interface (on left) --> Check "Use system file selectors"

Some bugs are fixed for next version (as announced in Myriad's blog).

The first time that Configuration > Interface was reset to allow the new File Selector, it opened empty (as previously) and then the program closed itself without error (as previously).
The new difference was that subsequently the System File Selector opened, yet Configuration > Interface did not show this option as selected.

(This will not be the same problem for other users: below, I accessed the new File Selector in 9.9.6 before I managed to corrupt it by using the delete feature)

If the new system is enabled, when you attempt to load a different keyboard shortcut file or a different chord diagram file (Configuration),
you will not be taken to the relevant folder and must search for it.

I do not know if this bug has already been corrected.

Edit: The same situation occurs when loading a set of rules (Black triangle > Edit rules > Load)
Are there other cases?

Because my computer crashes with the new file system, I am presuming that it necomes necessary to search for the relevant folder(s).
Could someone confirm that this is so?

I find that this feature works reasonably well.  Personally, I tend to prefer text to graphics, so I would like (as the Windows File Explorer has) an option to switch between the icon display and a list.  Eventually perhaps we could have an option to control the size of the icons.

What I like about this feature is the sidebar, which I think is going to be very handy.

I somehow got into a preview of a file, which even allowed me to play it.  I like that very much, but don't know how I did it.  I thought it was by clicking on the eye icon, but all it does now is to display an enlarged version of the HA icon.  What am I doing wrong?

The "usual" way (if that expression can be used for a new feature) of displaying a preview is by
Configuration > Global setup > Interface > Display preview.

Olivier had found that the preview feature was causing crashes, supposedly corrected.

Before the new system forever crashed for me, I found that a right-click in the right-hand window pane produced more useful options (below)...

@Paul:  Could I ask you to confirm that attempting to load a new keyboard shortcut file (see 4th posting above) leaves you having to hunt for the relevant folder?
Could you further check whether you can abort the loading of any file?

I have not yet reported the perceived bug as it was partial conjecture on my part.

Thanks, Tony.  I am not sure why the ability to see or not see previews needs to controlled in the general configuration, but this is not the first time I've been tripped up by that, lately.  Ah, well.  This is HA, after all.

To answer your question, I used the new file selector to load a saved configuration file, and the selector went straight to c:\[etc.]\Documents\Myriad Documents\Settings\Keyboards, with no problem.  I haven't had any trouble with loading lyrics, either.  Not since they worked out the majority of the kinks, anyway.

I'm also finding the ability to set Favorites to be very useful for going straight to the needed directory.
