showing notes that are out of range for an instrument

Happy New Year! May 2021 be more enjoyable for al of us. Is there a way to show all the notes on a staff that are out of range for the staff's instrument? I thought I'd asked this before, but cannot find it. And I've looked through the menus, scripts and dialogs, but cannot see anything that enables it. So apologies if this is repetitive or if I'm missing something obvious. ~ Bal

In a selection of notes, those that are in a specified pitch range can be colorized using menu EDIT > APPEARANCE > COLOR.

Thank you, everyone. I have set the ranges manually, and it works fine. As a feature request: Since HA indicates when I am placing a note that is out of range (red exclamation mark), it would be nice if when placing a note that is out of range for the given instrument, then HA would let me see the error with a toggle. There are reasons that I want to place a note that is out of range for a real instrument while creating the score that I will clean up when finishing it. Having the toggle would make the cleanup task simpler for me. But what I have will do the job. So thanks again! ~ Bal

I just noticed something else... I can set the ranges, as suggested. But if I place a new note on the score and it is out of range, it does not automatically become colored based on the range colors I have set. I have to go through the process of selecting the staff and running the Appearance command to get the new notes to show their range colors. So a second feature request. When I set a range color, new notes should reflect the ranges colors I've set.

On the colorize menu, you can save your range definitions to a file. You can then reload and reapply them whenever need be.

That's good to know, and I'll do it now. But even if I load the range settings, I would still have to reapply them to new notes place on the score after I loaded the range settings, yes?

Now the script works for all the new notes, and notes updated, when changing note pitch for example. You can load "Ambitus" version 19 here Amistats, Danièl.

The script looks very cool. But I'm having some difficulty in figuring out how to use it. Quick question: how do I delete a range marking once it's placed. When I try, it erases the entire staff. Thanks. ~ Bal

| _First you have to display the help window (Menu > Help > Help window). There are all the explanations when you hover over the script buttons. _Then you have to register a range for a given instrument. Input the lowest and the highest note (scroll mouse wheel on the corresponding buttons) and "save as" input the name of the instrument. Be sure it will be the same name for the corresponding staff title. Repeat the process for all the instruments and staves you need. _The right button of the script has 5 occurrences Scroll the mouse wheel to select the function, then click to apply the function. To delete range marking you have to do it from the script selecting the 5th occurrence of the right button. Enjoy. Amistats, Danièl.
