Midi recording : Sync bars

As asked by some users, we are implementing a new feature in the program : just before a MIDI recording is started, the program will play a few "ticks" that enable the performer to start playing in sync with the beginning of the piece.

Does anyone have clues about what must be played in these "sync bars" ?

In 4/4 time signature, it seems that 2 bars must be played. In the first one, two half notes, in the second one, four quarters.

It then plays something like :
Tick ----  Tick -----  Tick-Tick-Tick-Tick
...and the music starts.

But what must be played when the score is in 3/4 (or any other time signature) ? Are there rules for this ?

I don't think it's a rule but I have heard
Tick-Tack-Tack|Tick-Tack-Tack|music start...

(French)

Faut prévoir les mesures incomplètes. Le musicien commence sur le 4e tick de la 2e mesure 4/4 par exemple.....

Agreed, I think that would be fine.
I don't think there are rules but as long as you highlight the beginning of each bar you'll get no complaints

How about 6/8?...

Tick-Tack-Tack-Tick-Tack-Tack|Tick-Tack-Tack-Tick-Tack-Tack|music start...

2/4 = Tick - Tick | Tick - Tick (I suppose)

For complex signatures....
5/4 = Tick-Tack-Tack-Tack-Tack or Tick-Tack-Tack-Tick-Tack
7/4 = 1Tick - 6 Tack or 1Tick-3Tack-1Tick-2Tack...

Sorry, but I'm afraid you misunderstood my request

I do not need to know where to play a "Tick" instead of a "Tack".

What I meant is :
In 4/4 signature, the two bars are not the same. In the first one, there are only 2 "Ticks" but 4 in the second bar. It is just like somebody saying :

One .... Two ....  One, Two, Three, Four

before the music plays.

I wanted to know if there was something like this in other time signatures than 4/4.

I hope I was more clear this time

I had undestood...
In 4/4 signature, tick --- tick --- | tick - tick - tick - tick | start is clear to know when to start.

but in 3/4, tick --- --- | tick - tick - tick | start is not clear, it's not enough to synchronize.

So that's why I think "Tick - tack - tack | Tick - tack - tack | start" is more efficient

Well no, I don't think there is anything similar.
There's no natural half way point in triple time so it would be impossible to miss out beats with a count in.
You're stuck with...

3/4 : "one two three, one two three"

6/8 : "one two three, two two three, one two three, two two three"

In 6/8 I guess you could have "one, two, one two three, two two three" but I think it's hard to feel the groove in that instance as the first bar of count-in is exactly the same as 4/4

Hope that's more useful.
