Title: Music / transitions ?
Post by morganf on Jul 23rd, 2010, 2:46am
Hello and greetings from a newbie.

Galerie looks like an ideal way to show my photos, so easy to use. Thanks to all involved in creating it.

There are just two things I would like that it seems not to be able to do - play music continuously while the gallery is explored, and do transitions (preferably dissolves) between photos.

I have read here that some people think it is best not to have music as it can annoy some viewers, and maybe both of the above desires could be created in a QT movie.

So to clarify:

1. Can music be added to start when the gallery is opened and play continuously until it is closed?

2. Can transitions/dissolves be added, both to "normal" image browsing and to the slide show?

3. If I decide to make a QT movie, could that be added to the gallery or linked to from the index page?

I know almost nothing about using html.

Many thanks,

morganf

1. For adding music to a Galerie picture gallery, you will need to edit the gallery index page and/or the gallery picture pages and/or make the gallery be shown inside a frame in a page that plays the music. But you will need html coding skills to be able to do that. Consult web-design tutorials.

Alternative without html editing:
Galerie can use QT media, so you could make a still movie with music from a photo and use that movie for the gallery instead of the original photo. You can also use a music file that QT can handle in Galerie instead of a photo. It will play only on its own page and will stop playing when you move to the next page. See also below under 3.

2. The way Galerie creates the galleries, no transitions are possible. Not in Galerie itself and not by editing the created galleries.

3. QT media, such as QT movies or sound files, can be added to a gallery just like photos and even mixed with photos. Each file (image, movie, sound) will appear on its own page or in its own popup window. Movies will play with sound. Galerie will insert the movie on the picture page as it is, it will not scale the movie. The thumbnail on the index page of a movie will consist of four frames taken from that movie.

Note that Galerie was developed several years ago and that development has stopped, at least until someone else wants to continue development. It can still be used in Snow Leopard, albeit with some glitches. On Leopard and Snow Leopard, best use the beta version that solved a problem in Leopard: http://www.myriad-online.com/mac/GalerieBeta.dmg

Thanks for the quick reply Ronald, and for the good advice!

I'm using Snow Leopard so it was good to hear about the beta. That link to download it did not work - could you kindly check it please?

Thank you, merci, arigato!

Apparently the beta has been removed. I will ask Didier Guillion about it.

In the mean time with the latest release version:

- When you use dragging (image) files onto the drag icon, make sure that the name of the folder where the files reside does not contain a space. (That is the problem in Leopard and later that was resolved in the beta.)

- In Snow Leopard, the comment editing feature is disturbed by an error message for each typed character. You can, however, paste copied text in the edit field.

Edit: The beta that solves the first problem is available here: http://www.myriad-online.com/mac/Galerie541b1.zip

Edit2: In Snow Leopard you may also encounter a problem where Galerie does not respond anymore, especially when you try to choose a template. This can be solved by logging out of your user account and back in again.
