Next step: index page

What I feel mostly is the need for a main index page made by Galerie.
Your lovely application is very easy to learn and friendly to use, but after building many albums there is not an easy way to build a main page with thumbnails pointing to each album. The tutorial says few words about this and is not helping a lot.
For most of us who do not want to learn html there should be a way to have  an index page (with some elegant template) providing an easy link to all albums. When you add a new album, and before publishing with Galerie, you must check and update all links to your index page. Galerie could do this automatically. This is in my wish list for future upgrades of the application.
What do you think?
Best regards

I am not sure what the problem is. I will try to put the information that is in the ReadMe in other words:

When you have an number of galleries, you can use Galerie to create a main index page with links to each gallerie. Any template can be used for such a main index page and the page will contain the first thumbnail of each gallerie linked to the index page of that gallerie.
Put all the gallerie folders in one location (folder), choose your preferred template, the size of thumbnails, number of columns etc. Drag the folders one by one onto the drag&drop icon of Galerie, click the 'Generate HTML pages' button, and Galerie will make your main index page.
Each gallerie in the main index page will have as 'comment' the name of the folder of that gallerie, you can edit that 'comment' as you would otherwise edit comments by checking the 'Edit comment' checkbox.
If you want to have links back from the index pages of the separate galleries to the main index page, you need to anticipate a main index page when you generate your galleries by putting appropriate text in the 'Link to home page' box with "../index.html" (without the quotation marks) in the 'Address' box. If you choose to give the main index page file a different name, of course the address should match that file name, for instance "../main.html" if you name your main index page file "main.html".
And finally, the thumbnails in the main index page will be of equal size if creating that main index page you choose a maximum thumbnail size that is equal to, or smaller than, the smallest thumbnail size used in any one of the galleries used.

Does this help?

Ronald--

I have just started using your excellent software [ver 3.3], and I too have questions about making the index page.  I have followed your index page directions, and find that Galerie software takes all the photos in the two separate galleries [inside one master folder] and makes one big web galerie from the two sub folders... not an index page. The index page ends up being a link to 12 pages... with pictures from the first galerie starting on the main index page.

What did I do wrong?

Hi,

I checked the main index page feature this morning on Galerie 3.3 and it work without problem.

Are you sure the folder you drag and drop includes a gallery ?

(A "Index.html" file must be present)

Best regards

Hm, maybe a misunderstanding about what is meant with "gallery"? In this context a "gallery" is a gallery that is generated by Galerie, in its own folder complete with all its files (and folders), including, as Didier Guillion mentioned, its "index.html". Have the gallery folders in a master folder, drag the gallery folders onto the drag&drop icon of Galerie in the order you wish them to appear in the main index, and click "Generate". A dialog asking for a name for the main index page (default: "index.html") will popup and when you proceed Galerie will create the main index page in the master folder (with additional files, depending on the used template).
