First of all, thanks for anti-aliasing, the improvement in the rendered pages is great.

I noticed that if I generate an album "set in frames" , then depending on whether it's a horizontal or verticle frame one of the "rows" or "columns" settings isn't used  (i.e. no matter what columns times rows is, you always get a single page).  Not really a bug, but perhaps if it's set to "set in frames" either the "number of rows" or "number of columns" value that isn't being used can be grayed out?

Also, a comment: in the English version at least the term "Frame" is used for both HTML frames and frames around individual pictures.  You might consider renaming the latter "pictureframes" or similar to avoid possible confusion.

I suppose that making the text in the box grey is not possible (Didier?), but I think it would be possible to always set the value that is not used to "999", like it is done now when the shortcut is used (see new Shortcut menu). Would that be an improvement?

Yes, that is confusing and so would be "Border". "Pictureframes" is a possibility but it is rather long and the slider would be quite short as a consequence. "Margin size" could then be replaced by "Size". Would just "Size" be informative enough, you think?

Another possibility is to refer to the items as "frameset" and "decorative frames". That might be clear if the user is familiar with html framesets. There could be a note in Creating Templates regarding the term frameset. That at least doesn't introduce a new random term, but an accepted html term.

Re: the one index page in frameset. It would be good if it made multiple indices as usual, because too many index thumbs leads to a horizontal or vertical scrollbar. I just visited a site like that and it wasn't very aesthetic.

I've seen setups where the index frame only contains 5 thumbs at a time which automatically shift forward through all 25 thumbs, so there is no scrollbar. It looked very nice. However, it was usemap. I don't want visitors to my site to encounter a format they can't use-- is usemap generally accepted by browsers?

I can code html frameset (2 small top frames: main and thumbs,  and 1 large slide frame below) but the frameset template has a mind of its own. I don't see yet how to generate 3 frames with it (main/thumbs pages/slides). Perhaps it will become clear to me later.

About "frames":
We'll think about different names for frames and frames in a next version. Galerie must be easy to use also for those who do not understand html at all, which makes it difficult to find an appropriate name for a html frame.

About the frame scroll bar:
The scroll bar is intentional, the frame sizes are chosen such that there is room for the scroll bar. In a vertical frame the thumbnail frame will scroll with the pages, when you go from page to page.

It would be possible to let Galerie make multiple pages for the thumbnail frame. The effect (yes or no scroll bar) will also depend on the number of thumbnails in a column (or row) and the height (or width) of the browser window of the viewer. It could easily look different from what was intended.
I myself prefer the frames as they are now, but maybe making multiple thumbnail pages could be added as an extra option. We will consider it if more users ask for this possibility.
(There is also the problem of Galeries main window getting crowded with boxes, sliders and buttons more and more each new version, and if the window is made larger it does not fit on a 800x600 screen.)

About "usemap":
"Usemap" has to do with image maps. It is not (fully) supported by all browsers, although image maps can be made that work on all browsers. An image map is used to give different links to different parts of one image. It is not necessary for index pages in Galerie. In what way did you want to use it?

About frame sets:
Galerie can make only two kinds of frame sets, vertical with two frames and horizontal with two frames. The frame set is coded inside the application, so the user cannot make his/her own frame set. The user can only edit four pages: For index pages and for thumbnail pages in a vertical frame "index template.html" is used, for thumbnail pages in a horizontal frame "index template horizontal frame.html" is used and for the picture pages "page template.html" is used. The user can customize the picture page inside the popup window by editing the optional "javascriptpopupwindow.txt".

Continuing about the frame sets:
Of course you can put a gallery inside another frame set. If you have a gallery with horizontal frame, you could make a frame set with the main page in the top frame and the gallery frame set page in the bottom frame. The effect will be three frames: From top to bottom main, thumbs, pictures. For correct navigation you will need to observe the names of the different frames and the hierarchy in frame sets.

I see what you mean about setting up the frames in the above post. I noticed also that IE Mac ignored the nowrap I put in HTML and added a horizontal scrollbar also for no good reason (there were only 5 tiny thumbs), but when I put { white-space: nowrap } in the CSS, it respected the nowrap.

I had a template with the usemap that someone else wrote, and I don't think I'll use it if it may be problematic in some browsers. I can't be sure how well it's written. Apparently the usemap was set up to be similar to frames. Clicking on a thumb loaded the slide in the middle of the page.

I tried out the popup window. That is a marvelous feature! It's smooth and loads quickly. I've seen many popup windows with a top toolbar or not exactly the size of the picture, which looks ghastly. This one works perfectly.

Well, I'm working on a template setup. The most difficult part is choosing text colors, so I've been studying values and saturation. Luckily I have ColorWrite, a freeware java .jar that has 12 colors in various saturations, a greyscale illustration, and examples of mono, complementary, triadic, etc. Also it has a copy/paste HTML/CSS code feature when one finally makes the color choices. It is here if anyone is interested:

How did you use nowrap? In html 3.2 the nowrap attribute can be used for the <td> and <th> tags: <td nowrap>text</td>. In html 4 this attribute is "depreciated", but can still be used. All browsers, including IE Mac, obey this nowrap attribute. Some use the nowrap attribute in the <body> tag, but that works in MSIE Windows 4+ only and never made it to official html standards.
In style sheets nowrap can be used as white-space property. This will be used correctly only by the newest browsers. Use nowrap sparingly. Many designers create their pages on large screens with a lot of space. If the viewer has a 800x600 screen and the text will not wrap, well ....

I was using nowrap with 4.01 in a td (part of a frame), and my IE Mac didn't obey it until I put the white-space rule in the css also. Apparently IE in the UK is behaving differently from IE in the US.

However, pas de problème. I probably won't do frames. I've decided to skip any format that hangs up in the slightest. I'd rather put up pages that I feel confident can be loaded in most all browsers out there. There are plenty of html templates with just borders and edges, etc. that look great and work fine.
