I'm finding with Galerie 3.1 that when I have Galerie rescale my images, sometimes the images have some pretty horrible aliasing, which isn't good if I'm sharing photos.
The guilty party appears to be Quicktime, since if I use my imagemagick to rescale the images the results are good (but some of the Galerie features like frames around images don't work).
Anyone else seen this? (FWIW, iPhoto also seems to show some bad aliasing at times).
Yes it will be useful to see what you are speaking about, event if you post only some part of the original. Don't forget to provide the compression quality you defined in Galerie.
Note that for the Quicktime-generated album, both the thumbnails and the final image show some pretty serious aliasing in the form of stairstepping, while neither the thumb nor the final image for the ImageMagick-converted images show aliasing.
No changes between the albums except for the conversion backend set in the preferences.
JPEQ quality is set at 95, so it appears not to be an issue.
Admittedly, I chose this image since it shows the effect much more strongely than most images, but I'm seeing this in a lot of my images. Unfortunately, I do a lot of architectural images, and the aliasing results in a noticeable reduction in quality. Otherwise, Galerie has been very good.
