09/09/2009 10:47 GMT | Hello,
Here are some news from Myriad (it has been a while):
- The new friendly music contest has started, with an exciting topic: "Put together or oppose in a same piece two different music styles". Please don't be shy, send us your work ;-)
- Congratulations to Nicolas Demetri, who won the previous version of the contest. Congrats also to Kevin Dickinson (2nd), Jack Smith (3rd) and all the other competitors.
- We are presently working hard on the next version of Harmony Assistant. A major new feature will be the "user spaces". Each user of Harmony will be granted a Web space to display their music pieces on the Internet.
All will be managed very easily (no IT skill needed) from the next version of Harmony Assistant.
The dedicated website is already up and running, and you can view it here.
The new version of Harmony Assistant, that include the user space management functions, is currently in beta-test. If you wish to test it in exclusive preview, you can download and install the beta-version of Harmony Assistant.
This beta installs in a separate folder from the current version, so you'll still be able to use the latter if something wrong prevents you to run the beta-version properly. Please in such case, provide feedback so that we could fix the problem.
Links to beta-versions are available in this forum thread.
Thanks for your constant support! |

02/06/2007 14:36 GMT | Hi,
We are glad to announce the very first release of our new program, PDFtoMusic.
Did you ever suffer for not being able to simply hear a PDF score you downloaded on the Internet?
Did you, at least once, give up from using the score file sent by a friend, because his music program wasn't compatible with yours?
If you changed your score editor in the past, did you ever lose some music pieces you entered in the old one, because there was no easy way to convert them into a format that could be read by the new program?
PDFtoMusic is tailored for you! Open a PDF document, and after a few seconds, you'll just have to click an icon to hear the score playing, and even the lyrics be sung!
PDFtoMusic gives you full access at last to the huge PDF music score collection available on the Internet.
If you wish to go further, with Melody Assistant or Harmony Assistant, you'll be able to alter the score, remove parts, transpose them, or completely rearrange the whole piece.
For the most demanding users, the "Pro" version of PDFtoMusic also enables to export the result in MusicXML format, which is managed by most of the professional score editors, as well as tune up finely the calculation settings.
Considering that creating a PDF file from any program (even old or discontinued products) is a breeze, PDFtoMusic Pro then becomes the ideal bridge between your miscellaneous score editors.
So don't hesitate longer, download PDFtoMusic or PDFtoMusic Pro, and give it a try. You'll be amazed of how it will broaden your musical outlook.

The beta-test phase of Harmony Assistant 9.2 and Melody Assistant 7.2 is still in progress, and the Beta 9 is now available for both of these products.
You are invited, if not already done, to join the beta-test session by downloading this pre-version and reporting problems you could find.
If you own a new MacIntel computer, please note a beta-version for this kind of computer is also available, and we really need it to be tried and validated.
Your help will be appreciated!
The complete list of new features, improvements, changes and fixes can be read here .
Note for beta-testers on Windows: we are very sorry, but because of an error in the file saving function, if you created documents containing an imposed played bar list with a previous beta-version, this list will appear corrupted in the new beta-version.
To download this beta-version, visit this page and read carefully the recommendations before going further.
New features and problem reports are discussed in the dedicated forum. Feel free to use this forum to write comments or ask questions. We'd be glad if you could also post a message when it works as expected, in order to know the new feature has been successfully tested. 03/15/2002 15:48 GMT | Hello, everybody !
Version 8 of Harmony assistant (and 6 of Melody Assistant) is on its way. New features are now implemented, and we test them deeply before submitting a version beta-2. Here is a preview of all this new version will provide : http://www.myriad-online.com/beta/whatsnew.htm
The only item to complete is the new Windows interface, that will bring a nicer look and feel, with transparencies, smooth menu opening, etc. This new interface will be designed to enable users to change it through "skins".
We expect the beta-2 version to be available next week.
Have a nice week end...
And thanks to all beta-testers of version beta-1 ! |
02/14/2002 17:56 GMT | A first beta-version of Harmony 8.0 is available. If you are interested in testing it and sending us back comprehensive reports, please send your name, e-mail address, computer characteristics and special fields of interest you have in Harmony Assistant, to : info@myriad-online.com. |
02/11/2002 12:31 GMT | Here is a summary of our last week work : - ENHBEND Enhanced bend effect for guitar (pull, release, sustain & complete release in a single effect). This can now be managed through staff curves. - FULTPT Complete tuplet display. Enables for example to display "3:2" over a triplet instead of only "3". Tuplet bracket display can be masked. - New parameters for staff Rules. Note velocity can be selected as a criterium. Each rule can be non-blocking : when a note matches the rule, search continues after this for all following rules. A rule can be set up so that notes that match it are considered as the fundamental. When a note is considered as the fundamental, it becomes the root note of the chord for all notes at the same time position for ALL STAVES. Above this, a new criterium has been introduced : offset from the fundamental. By combining these two criteria, it enables for example to change pitch for chord third and fifth. This technique can be used for example in Barbershop singing - VELSMP (Enable different samples for instruments, according to the played note velocity). For example soft bass for low velocities, slap bass for strong velocities. This can now be managed through a rule set, by using the new velocity criterium. - TIERST Enables to tie a note with the adjacent rest in order to increase note duration. - New file format(.mu3) This file format enables to export Melody/Harmony documents so that digital tracks are internally MP3-encoded. Space gain is about 1 to 10 according to the selected quality level. The main use for this export format is file sharing on the Web. All information about page setup and instruments are kept as it would be in a regular .mus file. You must keep in mind MP3 encoding is destructive. It is therefore needed to keep the original file in .mus format for further changes. Successive loading and saving will lead to a loss of quality in digital track sound. In mu3 format, custom digital instruments can also be MP3 encoded. - MP3 export: encoding quality setting (bitrate). The higher quality, the longer resulting file. - MUS saving (standard files) : non-destructive RLE encoding for user instruments. It shrinks the standard files by about 20% when they include custom digital instruments, without any loss of quality .
Fixes : - Minor problems in menu enabling - Problem after editing special settings of a staff rule - Graphical artifact when adding a tie in smoothed mode.
|
02/01/2002 16:52 GMT | Here is a summary of what we did this week. Have a nice week-end ! - CLEFCHANGE Clef change anywhere in a bar - Harmony : In page mode, when control handles are displayed, invisible clef, key or time signature changes are displayed in light gray. - Ruler menu : A bar can be excluded from the bar counting. - Ruler menu : Bar counter can be restarted from any value at any bar - Ruler menu : Now possible in each bar to avoid too long notes to be splitted when going over the barline -KBEDIT : Computer keyboard setting window can be resized. User-defined key sets can be saved and loaded. Key sets can be selected among pre-defined sets. - Complete score editing from the computer keyboard.(Up/Down arrow to select note pitch, left/right to move cursor, and other keys to insert a note, a rest, etc) - Tunes can be sorted by style. In order to ease pieces sorting, it is now recommended to select, in "Title, composer.." window, the category the piece belongs to. A piece can belong up to three different categories. Pieces can be sorted this way in the jukebox list, and HTML pages can also be created according to the style tree. - When exporting in "HTML plug-in" mode, pages that contains files of more than a given number of Kb will be splitted. It is recommended to generate pages that can be accessed through low-speed modems.
Fixes : - Soprano Ukulele tuning. - Harmony : Lyrics displayed in Engraver mode. - HA793a-05-648915 Windows : Problem when smoothed texts overlaps the bottom of the application window - MA593a-05-57186A Communication problem with OMeR - Fixed : Harmony : Effects on notes in accompaniment patterns - Fixed : Midifile loading when tracks are empty - Fixed : Menu bar issues when multiple dialog boxes are open and closed. - HA793-8E-442FF7 : Editing operations in engraver mode - Fixed : problems in music following box - Instrument volume when exporting to Midifile now well calculated. - Fixed : Selection range and copy/paste operations on multi-voice staves. - HA793a-94-5e22b5 : Harmony : Note tying on the last bar in page mode. - Harmony Assistant, page mode : issue when moving an object (text, ottava...) over the last barline.
Virtual Singer: - Verse numbers are ignored by the singer. - Note pressure time is taken into account. |
01/25/2002 15:07 GMT | This week, an important module has been added. It inceases the sound rendering capabilities. - MDCTRK: Editing parameters through curves. Several curves can be related to each staff. A curve describes the evolution of a parameter when the piece is played. You can define the way volume, panning position, frequency (pitch bend), distorsion, filtering, etc., or even MIDI specific non-standard parameters are modified during time. It enables, for example, to make the volume vary while a note is played, to create complex pitch-bend, or to send specific commands to a MIDI synthesizer. Curve selection is made through a pop-up in the micro-icon formerly dedicated to velocity curve.
|
01/23/2002 11:24 GMT | Here is a summary of what we did last week. Improvements are a few, but of importance.
- Better graphical location adjustment for texts, graphics, chord diagrams, dynamics and effects. They can now be inserted on bar margins. Movement is more accurate. - Harmony : SPLITWND : Enable to split the document window into several parts, in order to see and edit several areas of the same score at the same time. - Compound time signatures : Enables to write 3+1/4 instead of 4/4. Number of reference notes per bar can now be up to 128 and the number of reference note per whole note to 64.
|
01/11/2002 18:06 GMT | Development of version 8.0 is in progress. Windows version is currently "relooked". The following features have been implemented :
-MAGNTOOL: Magnetic tool palettes. When moved, they stick to each other when too close. - Global setup has been rewritten, and options have been sorted - For each tool palette, it is possible to decide whether the document will avoid to be overlapped by it or not (when maximizing the document window) - Now possible to activate/deactivate effect display on staff and/or its related tablature. - Guitar effect palette : string numbers range is now 1 to 6 - BREVE : New note duration : breve and long. A new version of the music font is provided. It must replace the previous version in order to display these new symbols properly. - Harmony : Delete tool can be used to delete subdivisions of the chort grid. - Harmony : ALTFONT Now possible to use another font than STocatta to display music symbols. It is now possible to define "charsets". Each staff in a document can have its own charset. A charset can be made of characters from different fonts. - When the document uses fonts that are not installed on the system, an alert box tells it to the user. It can be disabled in global setup. -BARNBR When inserting a free text, some wildcards can be replaced by values that depends on the score. For example, $B token is replaced by the current bar number, and therefore enables to display bar bumber anywhere. - Staves with rules : to add quickly a note that belongs to a rule, Shift+Click (or right-click) to open a pop-up menu. Select the required rule in the list, the note will be added according to the selected rules. When editing a note (double-click on the note head), and this note belongs to a staff with rules, a pop-up menu in the "General" panel enables to change quickly the rule this note belongs to. |
11/23/2001 15:27 GMT | This week, we were not alone to work : many beta-test team members worked hard on v.7.9 ß1. Because no important problem has been reported, we can wish the final version will be available about the 1st of December, 2001.
Interesting suggestions have been made, and some of them have been implemented in the ß2 version.
Harmony Assistant 7.9 ß2 is available on the beta-test page.
Here is the improvement list :
- When clicking the editing mode change icon (note / velocity curve / pressure curve) when shift key is depressed, the editing mode change applies to all staves in the score. If staves are selected, the editing mode change only applies to them.
- To import quickly instruments from another document, select "Instruments>Import instruments". You can then select some instruments from another document, and import them in your piece. It can be interesting to create this way a set of reference documents that include user sound sets, and import them when needed. A few user sound sets are provided on CD-ROM in "Special Stuff" folder.
- In the Virtual Singer palette, a colored progression bar shows the calculated part (green) compared to the total duration to be calculated (blue). If the played part (yellow) goes over the calculated part, voice stops and red color is displayed. Decrease then the slider value.
We also drastically improved the MIDI documents processing speed, and quickness of editing commands on big scores (more that 100 pages)
"Drums" folder has been re-organized, completed and improved.
Thus, beta-testers can download and install this ß2 version, then tell us back whether it works well. |
11/16/2001 18:10 GMT | Harmony 7.9 with Virtual Singer 2.0 is now available for Beta testing. Beta testers are welcome ! Write to : beta@myriad-online.com
WEB |
11/15/2001 09:24 GMT | This week, we are working on v.7.9 Beta (5.9 beta for Melody), that should be available very soon.
In order to compensate for the lack of default drum patterns, a new feature has been added to Harmony Assistant. It enables to hear and use miscellaneous drum patterns, chosen among a list of about 200 presets. You will also be able to add your ouw drum patterns to this default list.
Here is a description of this new feature :
- A set of drum patterns is provided in the "Drums" folder. This set is reduced in the downloadable archive (for size reasons). The complete set is provided on the Myriad CD-ROM. To use these patterns, you can (when using Harmony) select a pattern from the rythm pattern selection window. Otherwise, you can import a drum pattern by using "Staff>Import staff" or load it and copy/paste the required bars.
You can add your own files to the drum pattern set : just copy a file (.MUS or .MID) that includes grid or standard drum staves to the "Drums" folder. |
11/12/2001 12:27 GMT | Here are the changes and improvements that will be included in the next version (probably Harmony 7.9 and Melody 5.9)
Main changes are about graphical quality and editing. Some improvements (suggested by users) are quite cool !
Interface : - New mouse management : each action is explained by a different mouse pointer shape. Help window is more relevant. - Texts and musical symbol smoothing on screen. It improves score viewing in page mode when scale is small. This can be disabled from Global Setup>Appearance - When delete (lightning bolt) tool is selected, a selection range can be specified so that it whole content is erased. - "Hammer" tool can be used to specify a screen area to be played. - "Injector" tool can be used to specify a screen area in which notes are affected. - Score object layers have been redefined. It eases moving or deleting a note when on a dynamics. Layer order is now : effects, grace notes, accidentals, note heads, dynamics, chord diagrams, graphics then free objects. - New command in Edit>Bar : Insert a bar at the end (Command or Ctrl + I). Adds quickly a bar at end of score. - An incomplete bar (also called anacrusis, upbeat or pickup note) can be inserted quickly. Open the ruler menu or select "Edit>Bar>Insert incomplete bar". - When moving an effect, grace note or accidental, the matching note is highlihted - Note splitting can be deleted by clicking on the tie - Keyboard shortcuts to play metronome, loop playing and selection playing. - You can use special keys (Macintosh : Shift, Option / PC : left shift, right shift) in keyboard shortcuts to multiply the number of available shortcuts. - In the Harmony "Score" menu, a new sub-menu called "Page mode setup" enables to modify quickly the most common parameters of page setup. Because page mode reflects what will be printed, it also affect printing output.
Music playing : - When empty bars are displayed as a single bar, location in played score loops graphically on this bar.
Notation: - Note effects : unlimited number on each note. Color and font can be selected individually. - New effect : "character string" : you can link one or more short texts (max : 16 characters each) to each note. Each string color and font can be selected as needed. - Special barlines (repeat ...) color can be selected individually. - New note head shapes for drums. They appear in the note display tool palette. - Staff names can be written on several lines - Abbreviated staff name. If an abbreviated name is defined in the staff display box, it is used on all staff groups other than the first one on printed score. - Keyboard shortcupt printing also prints the available Command (Ctrl) + keys.
Files : - Automatic Jukebox list build now accepts .kar files - Improved display of loaded MIDI files - Accidentals are moved to avoid overlapping when loading a MIDI file. - Alert box that warns a file has been modified and not saved (can be activated in Global Setup>Save) enables now to save the file directly.
MIDI output :
- Advanced Midi setup window enables to send external Sync (MTC) events, to synchronize MIDI device that manage this protocol.
Fixes : - Master palette : sub-palettes are no more opened outside screen - OMeR connection - Staff symbol size now also affects the text that displays number of empty bars.
Mac OS X.1 update :
- Preferences in the application menu - "Help" menu has been set up - MIDI IN echo
Windows Update :
- Fixed real-time Midi input timing - Font smoothing is available according to your version of Windows (from Windows 95+Windows Plus to Windows XP) - Myriad Music plug-in : included patch to make it work under Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 and IE 6. - Dialog boxes and button redrawn to be more compatible with the current Windows look and feel - Default dialog box and menu fonts chosen according to the OS (MS Sans Serif for Windows 95 & 98, Tahoma for Windows 2K and more). |
