Title: Problems with the voices / intruments and Midi export
Post by addy-b on May 16th, 2018, 10:40pm
Hi,

I have a problem with the choosen instruments in "PDF to Music" .

For to note-lines (Voices) with (K) "Keyboard", there is no assignment to the name.

If I export the sheet to midi and import it in cubase, I get 10!!! lanes of different midi-fragment, all Called Keyboard 1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, and so on.

Sadly, some other intruments are disapeared in the midi file :/

I donk´t know, were the problem is and how I can fix it.
I tried to change the setting from "ePiano" to an other instrument. No change :(

Please help me :)

Could you attach the .pdf file for us to have a look at it ?

no Problem.

PDF in attachement...
The File was not generated by me and comes from "AVID Sibelius 15".

Just in the moment, I took the screenshot for this problem to mark the relevant part, I noticed the optical difference in the form of the brace between "Drum" and the failed "Keyboard".

May be this could couse the problem?!

I don't think the issue is caused by the bracket/brace marks. I've tried importing the result file directly into Harmony Assistant and I get the same extra staves for the keyboard parts, most of them being empty apart from a dynamic mark or two.
It looks as if PDFTM was trying to join/match staves when changing pages and issued more voices.
It may happen that on complicated staves PDFTM has to draw two merged staves for the same "printed" staff, but it doesn't seem to be the case here.
I attach the .mid file exported from HA (I removed the empty keyboard staves before export)

I have seen cases where PDFtoMusic generated two staves instead of one when it was unable to recognise as parent the one on the first page and on the ones on the next, particularly when the "alternate name" was much different.

But here it's not that, as I saw. The duplicated staves happen when there are several notes above each other, and it interprets them as different "voices".  This is quite good when two singers or like instruments are "merged" on the same staff, but more a nuisance with chords, particularly frequent with keyboard instruments.

You would need HA (in order) to "flatten" the merged voices. It might be good if PDF2M had an option to "auto-flatten".

Thank you for the helpful answers.
Great forum :D

I'll take a look at the Harmony Agent and see if that helps me.
Unfortunately, there are many PDF files that I like to edit, everywhere the same problem.

It would be nice if an update would offer the possibility to make export settings for midi files, where you can disable this duplication.

Furthermore, it would be great if I can choose the page numbers that I want to import in PDF to Music. :)

Often I dont need the whole script.
