When I add a dynamic marking, like p, ppp, f, ff, or the "crow's feet" crescendo/decrescendo markings, the setting on which staff or staves to apply defaults to "Apply to all staves."

I want them to apply only to one staff. It seems that I have to change this setting one at a time, every time I lay down a marking. And it's getting quite bothersome.

I figure there has to be a way to set the defaults. Hopefully someone here can help with this.

From where does your document originate?

In a test, when I create a NEW document, the dynamic defaults are "Apply to all merged staves"

If this is changed to "Apply to all staves" and the document saved and closed, the next time it is opened new dynamics still default to "Apply to all merged staves".

I don't think that the default type can be changed for dynamics. From what I've read on Myriad's blog (Feb 7th) the procedure has been re-written in the beta version of HA. It seems to default to something like :
- apply to the staff and the staves that are merged with it (multiple voices on one staff)
- apply to the staves linked by a brace/bracket if the dynamic is placed between these staves .
However, it may still be time to ask the Myriad team to change this in the upcoming version of HA/MA, keeping the latest setting as default.

I'm not sure this should be changed in a hurry, within the current beta-testing activities. A complete analysis is required to do more than the new handling for groups (I think it's only with braces, not brackets).

Perhaps we need a global option for that, or a staff setting (these can anyway be marked "for all staves").

True, a beta-version isn't meant to add new features, but knowing that part of the code has been re-written and the storage of default for dynamics/pedal marks would be only internal and not exported to global parameters, perhaps it wouldn't mean a dramatic change and still be tested with the rest, killing two birds with one stone. ;)

What I generally do is to add the dynamic once, set it the way I want it, then select it, copy it, and paste it wherever else it is needed. I would be wary of tampering with default, since it may have unexpected repercussions.

On the other hand, if it were possible to make the default settable in "General Configuration," that would be useful.

(I'd love the "effects" defaults to be more settable, too.)
