Are you interested in vynil sound?

I think adding an instrumet like an fx that can add to the sound of your music the old lp noise, to make it sound from 1900. I like a thing like this, is not hard to do, i can send some samples of a vynil disc noise. what you think?

Yes, it is a really good idea. Please send it, I will try to build a "looped" sound from this.

I've a WinAmp plugin for vynil and I think it's more complicated that just an instrument which sounds like crakles. The entire sound of the score is distorded, or crakles are not added to the sound but they modify the sound. (Sorry it's a bit hard to say in english so.... if someone is able to translate...)

I understand it is always possible to do better. But before starting to design a 2000 lines program that renders exactly the sound of my grandma's gramophone, let's try the simple solutions first. Marce, I confirm I am interested in your samples.

J'ai fait quelques essais, c'est assez marrant ce truc ----------------- for the winamp plugin, you can find it at this url : www.winamp.com/plugins/browse.jhtml search "izotope"... i try it, funny

Hi, I just listened to the samples provide by jm. Pretty cool. A little heavy on the tempo variant but otherwise very authentic sounding.

Well,i will work in record some good (or bad =) samples from the noise of my vynil discs. How Sylvain says, its more complicated than this, but maybe this looping sound combined with a effect processor called something like "equalization for a 1900 disc sound" will work well.

I agree. I think a looping sound, combined with a resonator FX, should be enough to render this effect. You can test it by loading a one-staff document, then applying an effect processor at the beginning of this staff. Set a fixed resonator, at about 3000-3500 Hz, along with a strong resonance power. It provides a quite realistic effect (except for the missing crackles).

I've found a perfect demo for a real vynil. this is a musette I've recorded with my computer. It's here : http://iubito.free.fr/goldWanted/Musette.mp3 At the beginning (2' & 10') you can hear some little "bends" (frequency changes). Between 25' and 35', some "cracks". At 25' don't care about the bad sound of the accordion (it's MP3 compress). After 50' the sound is distorted, especially in the medium and loud accordion chords. The vynil sound is a little distorted (my example isn't the best), I advice you look a vynil sound in a wave editor or a digital track in Melody.

Not bad at all! A lot of parameters should be taken into account. This can give difficulties to realize the task! Good chance! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Pas mal du tout! pas mal de paramètres doivent donc être pris en compte et ceci risque de ne pas faciliter la tâche! Bon courage!

Here are the 10 parameters used in iZotope Vinyl (for those who don't download the plug-in and WinAmp). 1. Mechanical Noise Adds turntable rumble and motor noise. Use it at low volumes to add realistic noise to intros and quiet parts of songs. 2. Wear Simulates the effects of a record that's been played too many times. Adjust the Wear setting in combination with the Input Gain to get realistic distortion of the record. 3. Electrical Noise Adds electrical noise from preamps and other phonograph circuitry. Use it at low volumes to add realistic noise to intros and quiet parts of songs. 4. Dust Amount Amount of dust on the record. Higher values result in more dust on the record. 4bis. Dust Gain Controls the volume of the dust samples. 5. Scratch Amount Number of scratches on the record. 5bis. Scratch Gain Controls the volume of the scratch samples. Note that the scratches replace (mute) the music being played If Gain is low, there is a gap, else there is a scratch. 6. Warp Depth Amount of the Warp in the record. Higher values will result in deeper warps in the record, which causes greater pitch variations. 6bis. Warp Model allows you control whether there is a continual warp around the record, or if there is just a single warp in a corner. 7. Input and Output Gain Turn up the input gain to get a strong signal (up to the red LEDs, but not lighting them). Turn down the output gain if the output is too loud. 8. Mono or Stereo 9. Year Year of the record player. Year 2000 record players do not degrade the signal, while earlier models roll off frequencies. 10. Round Per Minute simulated speed of the record player, effecting how often scratches are heard and how often record warps rise and fall.

Well, i have finished sampling the noise from some of my old discs, and now im sending to guillion bros. I sample 33 and 45 rpm discs, old and very old ones. I also sample the noise of the prick (is this the name?) on the disc and the noise of the arm when the disc finish. (You dont have it with the izotope vynil . Well, always is goot have more that one solution. by

Hi! Something else is missing in iZotope.... when DJ make scratch (move the record when it turns) ! Yes! it may be very useful!
